Trades for May 28, 2015

Not the best day, I didn't really make any great trades, it was pretty random trading, I didn't really have any conviction in anything, I was up $450 in the first 30 minutes and that's what I basically finished at.  I was $800 at point, but then I gave most of it back on CBLI and AMRN, from terrible trading on those, terrible entries and then just "bagholding" them until it "came back", but they never did, super annoying on AMRN, my short was terrible but had I held I would have been up, I took the loss, then went long and lost on it both ways.  CBLI was just stupid, I was only going long because I didn't have shares to short, and that stock had some "action", I was looking for a 10-15 cent scalp and missed it, then had some "profitable adds" but then missed exits on those as well and I was down on everything and was "bagholding" it forever as it was slowly fading off with zero volume.

I hesitated on BIOC short today because it was "Day 1" and I thought it might go a bit higher to 3.80-4 first, but 3.70 was the top (premarket resistance acted as resistance again into the pop at the open), I missed it and also missed the re-short into bounces and "VWAP rejects".  I also didn't "chase" OHGI early on, I could have easily bought at 2.80, 3, 3.40, 4, 4.50 and it went all the way to 5.50, I was watching it the whole time right from premarket.  I made a little bit on it later on with just small scalps, the first trade was a good entry but I only got 1k shares (was wanting 2-3) and sold a little bit early, the rest of them were either fighting the trend, or I just had no real conviction or I didn't have the best entry, I could have made more on some had I held for the "bigger picture" and I could have lost more on some had I not taken take my exits.

The best "plays" today were OHGI long and then short later on, BIOC short and GBSN short, I did OHGI long a bunch of times but not very early and just scalps that weren't that great, I had no conviction on good entries and took tiny profits on not so good entries, and I missed shorting the other two at all (and couldn't short OHGI into some of those pushes because I didn't have shares to short, but I might have been way too early initially in the morning if I did have shares).  Like I've said before, I like shorting into parabolic's/pushes when everyone wants it, like 5.50-5.70 pushes on OHGI, and then covering into washouts/slow grind, I can't go long when it's just a 5.10 "flatline" and "hope" it spikes up and I can sell into that, that doesn't really work for me, I don't have the patience for it.

The trades were pretty random today, not really any "great setups" or anything, not really a good way to trade, it was mostly just random, at least I finished green, but it wasn't the best trading, I was up this much in the first 30 minutes with only a few trades.

FOR NEW READERS ONLY: If I am scaling in and out of a position, that is considered one trade until I am completely out of the position and then it becomes a new trade, that's why some trades have a lot of shares, even if I never had that much at once, if I cover half and then re-add my cover, it's still considered one trade until I am completely out.  The entry is the average of the entries and the exit is the average of all the exits.  The entries/exits are rounded to 2 decimal places, but the exact number is calculated for the PnL, so that's why the dollar amount may look different than what you see. (it may be 7.165 instead of 7.17, etc).  Also, you can click on the charts if you want to make them bigger to be able to better see the entries/exits.

BIOC
This gapped up from 3 to 3.50-3.70 range on some positive news/presentation coming up, and had a classic "gap up parabolic and fade" as we've seen many times lately, I was just more hesitant on this one because it was "Day 1" not "Day 2".  I missed the short at the open and on the VWAP bounce, I tried going long for a scalp and got 200 shares filled, I decided to keep that order in and let the rest fill and "try to make it work", it worked out okay for a small profit, but it wasn't the best trading and the "setup" was still a short.  I thought about "flipping short" my sells at 3.40-3.42 using VWAP as a guide for the short, but I didn't and it faded off slowly from there.

  • Lessons:
  • "Day 1" gap up parabolic's can work just as well as "Day 2" gap up parabolic's, just pay attention to the price action, often premarket resistance acts as resistance into a parabolic in the first few minutes and it washes out from there, then maybe one "VWAP retest/reject" and then a slow fades from there, this is still a great setup to take even if it is "Day 1" instead of "Day 2", just have to pay attention to how "low float" it is/average volume and how the price action is (OHGI was also sort of a "Day 1" parabolic today but it just went straight up and it trades a lot "thinner")

OHGI
Tim Sykes "created" the spike from 1.75 to 2.25 yesterday, it had some news/presentation today, but it's mostly just a "low float" "short squeeze" (the float is apparently 14m but it normally trades very little volume and today it traded 28m).  It spiked from 2.35 to 3.88 in the first 3 minutes, came back to 3.30-3.50 range, and then squeezed up to 4.50, then broke that and went extremely parabolic up 5.59 in another 5 minutes, 2.35 to 5.59 in the first 15 minutes or so, pretty insane.  It pulled back to 4.53 and I wanted to go long with 1-3k shares into that dip using 4.50 and somewhat VWAP (4.37) as a guide (my best planned/best "setup" trade of the day).  I only got 1k shares at 4.68 and I missed another order in the 4.50's for another 1k, it spiked up to 5.09 in one candle and I sold somewhat early into that for 20 cents at 4.88.  I had it long again later at 4.70 using VWAP (4.67) "over/under" as a guide, it popped up to 4.88 and I was looking to sell 4.85-5 but I missed it, it came back down and seemed "weak" and I thought 4.70 might break, so I just "ditched it" for a tiny profit, it ended up popping back up shortly after I sold.  It almost broke down at 11:06 but a "market order" "saved it" and popped it right back up to 4.80 (I circled this spot on the chart, basically the opposite of a "stuff" and it "saved it" and spiked up from there, pay attention to those for longs/covering a short), that was the "short trap" and it squeezed up to 5.80's from there, that was "the top" and it washed out from there.  I scalped it twice with not really having the best entries, it held a 5-5.10 "flatline support" really well and had another push up to 5.70's but it was "stuffing" there again and faded from there, and broke 5 (VWAP) support and faded to close at 4.20's.  I scalped it some on the initial washout off the highs and then tried "catching it" way too early into that 5 washout and was breakevenish on most of it, I had missed selling 50 shares (didn't fill) and I added 1k at 4.54 and sold that and the 50 shares at 4.63.  It was stupid to be going long into the last hour/into the 5 dollar washout, but I didn't have shares to short and I was just trying to scalp washouts and such, it didn't really work very well because I never had the best initial entries but at least I was smart enough to make sure to sell it all for breakevenish and not just keep holding it.

ONTY
This stock still somewhat "in play" but it's very "slow and thick" because of the large float.  I took one trade on it and got a partial fill and took 5 cents on it because I didn't really care because the size was so small (it filled as 500/551 at first and then I let the last 51 shares fill).

CBLI
"Day 3" of this stock after it's "gap up and fade yesterday", it "hung around" 2.90-3.20 on low volume for the most part, then randomly "jumped up" to 3.60 from about 3 in around 5-10 minutes on some random news or something I think.  Such an "easy" short into that push but there are no shares to short.  It washed out from 3.59 to 3.30 in two candles and I thought I had a great entry at the very bottom of that with 1k shares at 3.30, I thought I could easily sell 3.40-3.50, it bounced back to 3.38 by 3.40 but I had not sold yet (I had an order waiting at 3.44 or something), it washed out again to 3.23 and I added another 1k at the bottom of that and it was 3.28 by 3.34 for a minute but there wasn't really any liquidity/anyone buying (I was trying to sell as the best ask 3.32-3.34). I got some more adds around 3.17 and I had a 3.22 average, I got 1k filled at 3.23 and a 100 share partial fill at 3.29.  I was wanting to just take a small profit from 3.25-3.30 but I got "faked out" by two fake "big buyers" (10-12k buyers) on the bid at 3.22-3.23, I had canceled some orders and then missed fills and the bids just "drop out" especially with SSR on.  I got another partial fill sell at 3.18 and then added in a few places again but it was a 5+ cent spread and super low volume.  I was trying to get filled many times on the ask but I couldn't, I sold most of it at 3.09 from 3.15 average, I missed selling 5 shares and I didn't want to have to make a new order for 5 shares (it costs $25 if the total trade is less than $35 value), I added 1k at 2.97 and 100/1000 at 2.93 and sold it all (including the 5 shares) at 2.99.  A really stupid "baghold" trade, I was just "holding and hoping" on my long position, I would have most likely been short instead if I had shares.

  • Lessons:
  • Be careful/avoid "dip buying"/scalping washouts on low volume stocks after a parabolic, often they will just fade back to where they came from if there's no "follow through" volume
  • Cannot use so much size on a stock with that low volume (it was very difficult for me to exit my position)
  • Don't turn what was meant to be a "scalp" into a "baghold", just take the quick profit or quick loss, don't keep adding more to the problem
  • Don't be "faked out" by big bidders, sometimes they are fake or just get "pulled", especially on a "thin stock" (I would have gladly taken breakevenish at 3.22-3.23 by hitting those big buyers but I was too greedy thinking I could sell 3.28-3.34, I got partial fills and then the bids just "drop out" and it's a 3.18 by 3.28 spread and impossible to get filled anymore)

AMRN
Insane move today on this stock today some intraday news, up from 1.95 to 2.13 initially and then a slow grind up to 2.50 and then a parabolic to 2.80, then right back to 2.20-2.30 from there, the volume on that parabolic was insane.  I shorted way too early, I shorted 1k at 2.46, it pulled back a few cents but then was testing 2.50 again, and I stupidly put a random "fishing order" for another 700 shares right at 2.51 thinking it might pop to 2.50-2.52 and then fade back down, I should have just been either taking the loss for a few cents and waiting for higher or at least waiting for an anticipatory add into further spiking.  It hit as high as 2.80, I was down about 30 cents but I wasn't down all that much because I had pretty small size, it washed out from 2.77 to 2.52 in one candle and I took the loss at 2.53-2.55.  I thought I was being smart taking the loss instead of holding until it "came back" but holding it longer would have worked better this time, it faded back to 2.40ish (about where VWAP was), I now went long with not the best average (2k shares 2.45 average), it bounced to 2.50 but failed there and broke below VWAP, I should have been out at 2.40-2.50 when it was failing but I wanted a bigger bounce to 2.50-2.60 and I was "trying to make back" my loss on the short (too emotional I guess, even though it was only a few hundred bucks).  It faded from there and I sold for a 13 cent loss, frustrating losing on it both ways.
