Trades for April 8, 2015

Awesome day, up over $1000 within the first hour, added some more later on and then didn't trade at all the last four hours.  I was taking breaks, I wasn't at the computer the whole time, and didn't see too much that looked worth trading so I didn't want to force anything and end up giving a lot of it back. Very stress free, lots of small gains adding up to a big day.

There is a planned power outage from 3:00 PM EST to 7:00 PM EST where I live so I decided to post the blog early (I finished it off from a hotspot on the laptop) and not trade the rest of the day, I could try to trade from my laptop with a hotspot from my phone, but why bother when I'm up $1900 and trading from the laptop sucks, I would rather take the rest of the day off and relax.  The charts end at 3:00 EST today, the last hour of trading is missing on them.

FOR NEW READERS ONLY: If I am scaling in and out of a position, that is considered one trade until I am completely out of the position and then it becomes a new trade, that's why some trades have a lot of shares, even if I never had that much at once, if I cover half and then re-add my cover, it's still considered one trade until I am completely out.  The entry is the average of the entries and the exit is the average of all the exits.  The entries/exits are rounded to 2 decimal places, but the exact number is calculated for the PnL, so that's why the dollar amount may look different than what you see. (it may be 7.165 instead of 7.17, etc).  Also, you can click on the charts if you want to make them bigger to be able to better see the entries/exits.

  PSTR
I was willing to go long on an opening washout or short an opening spike, but with the overall goal of shorting on opening spike and watching this fade green to red.  I missed the opening washout to 4.45 and then it bounced to 4.96 and offered a great shorting opportunity, I got 1000 shares short at 4.78 on the way up and missed adding another 1000 in the 4.90's.  I didn't think my average was that great, so I covered into the washout at 4.67 for 11 cents, thinking I would just reshort again on the next push.  It pulled to 4.60 on that candle and I tried to got long for a scalp at 4.61, it momentarily bounced to 4.74 but then washed out to 4.45, I added more 4.48-4.27, to give me 3380 shares 4.45 average, and luckily it bounced to 4.54 and I sold it all into that for a tiny profit from a bad trade.  I was somewhat trying to reshort on the ask 4.50's but didn't get filled and wasn't trying that hard to get in, it faded nicely to low 4's.  It bounced to 4.30's but failed to go back green on the day and started rolling over again, I was going to hit 4.13 3000 share buyer (with 1000 shares), if it was getting hit, but it got taken out in one shot and then faded to 3.85.  Didn't make much on this today, but it was another great example of a junk stock that had a big move, and it's now day 2 with a gap up and push and then fade off red.
TypeEntryExitShares+/- $Amt$ PnL% Pnl
Short 4.78 4.67 1000 $0.11 $110.00 2.30%
Long 4.45 4.50 3380 $0.05 $169.60 1.13%
  • Lessons:
  • Try to be more patient when the stock is doing what you want (that morning parabolic to 4.95 was exactly what I wanted but I covered early since my first entry wasn't that good and I missed any adds)
  • Do not try to scalp a long trade on a junk stock that just parabolic'd like that, my ideal trade was exactly what it did, morning spike and then fade off red on day 2 of it's run, and I tried to scalp it long after it already spiked up and shorts were hammering in and could have lost $300-500 but got lucky on the bounce
  • Can reshort ALL POPS after the big spike, pullback, and bounce on Day 2 of the run, in this case, using 4.50's and VWAP as a guide looking for the fade back to red and ideally the 4 dollar washout

I saw this premarket but then didn't have it on of my six stocks I was watching, I ended up seeing it around 9:40 which was probably a good thing, rather than trying to short it too early on the way up.  I was really wanting to go long at 3.10 on the VWAP bounce as I expected another leg up as many of these big movers have done lately, big push, pullback to VWAP and then holds and starts the next leg up.  I had one order in at 3.10 at one point and didn't get filled, then had orders wanting around 3.08-3.06 and it didn't get there and I never chased it up, completely missing the big move even though my idea was dead on.  At least I knew not to be shorting too early on the "leg next up", I was waiting for that 3.50 "blow off", and started in at 3.59, and added more 3.61-3.69 to give me 4390 shares 3.64 average.  I covered 1k 3.53, 1k 3.54, and could have been replacing those again 3.60's but I was trying not to readd covers since that often is what gets my in trouble and leads to big losses if it keeps going.  I waited for the 3.50 break and covered the rest 3.43-3.45 for a $670 profit in one trade.  Then scaled in long looking for the bounce off VWAP and sold for a tiny profit.  I was thinking it might continue to grind and make higher lows and VWAP would now act as support, but it was still acting weak and broke back below VWAP and then slowly faded down to 3.10's.  I scaled in long again, I was trying to sell my first entry for a tiny profit but missed it, I ended up with 3700 shares 3.13 average and sold it all right away into the bounce.  Scalped it again long but only 1000 shares and it seemed like it was acting weak so I sold for 4 cents.  I missed the perfect reshorting opportunity on the VWAP (3.30 area) retest and fail and it slowly faded to 2.90's and then 2.70's in the last hour which isn't on the chart.
TypeEntryExitShares+/- $Amt$ PnL% Pnl
Short 4.64 4.48 4390 $0.15 $669.10 3.29%

Long 3.13 3.19 3700 $0.06 $229.00 1.98%
Long 3.09 3.13 1000 $0.04 $40.00 1.29%
  • Lessons:
  • Make sure to get filled if you have conviction in a trade, a few cents won't matter in the big picture (my idea was the bounce off VWAP for the next leg up, whether my average was 3.11 or 3.08, it wouldn't matter much in the long scheme of things, I was going for the perfect bottom tick if 3.10 broke but 3.10 held and I missed the move entirely even though my idea was dead on)
  • Can short on the VWAP RETEST/REBREAK on a big mover after it tries to bounce off of it and still peaks out (it bounced 3.35 to 3.45 but then was still acting weak and then retested and broke and slowly faded to 3.10's)
  • Can use VWAP as a guide for a short on retests, as long as it acts as resistance (over/under that area), the stock will likely continue to fade lower throughout the day (VWAP/3.30 "stuffed" again and it faded to 2.90's within a few hours and then 2.70s later on which isn't on the chart)

 CNDO
Shorted into the parabolic for a quick scalp, 1000 shares at 4.22, I was willing to add more 4.28-4.30's but it failed at 4.25, and I covered at 4.13 into the dip for 9 cents.

 KONE
Very thinly traded stock, it's average volume the last 3 months is 17,000 shares, and today it traded 500k+ by the end of the day.  It gapped up from 3.12 to 4's and started uptrending to 7's, on no news that I could find, just sympathy to all the other chinese stocks that were running today and early shorts getting squeezed and fueling it higher.  I started shorting 200 shares at 7.39, and only got 100 filled at first and could have covered that around 7, but I let the rest fill and was willing to add more higher.  I scaled in 200 shares at a time 7.59-7.83 and ended up with 1000 shares 7.64 average, during some of those candles, I could have covered at least some at 7.05-7.30 on the bid at times but I wasn't quick enough to have orders in and never got filled when I was sitting on the bid with a 20 cent spread.  I added another 120 at 7.78 (was trying for 300) when it was starting to pullback some and looked like it would fade lower.  I got 400 covered at 7.41 and then could have readded 7.70ish again but I didn't want to get caught if it spiked higher again and I mess up another trade from readding (like a lot of my recent trades have been, covering some and then readding and getting in bad situations from the readds).  I covered the rest 7.26-7.35 for a decent gain but then it looked weak again so I hit the bid, 500 shares at 7.25 and covered at 7.11 when it was holding, since my entry was a chase.  Reshorted 300 on the bounce at 7.30 and covered at 7.02 (200 filled then I let the last 100 fill when it retested), once again could have been replacing on the bounce but it was too thin and didn't want to mess up a trade from readds.  Didn't trade it the rest of the day since it's so thin and 10-30 cent spread.
TypeEntryExitShares+/- $Amt$ PnL% Pnl
Short 7.66 7.34 1120 $0.31 $352.60 4.11%

Short 7.30 7.02 300 $0.28 $84.00 3.84%
  • Lessons:
  • Make sure to have some orders already in for covers on thin stocks (this trade could have been much better and if I would have gotten some of my shares filled 7.05-7.30 on some of those candles and then I would have been able to reshort even more shares higher)

Trades for April 7, 2015

Got absolutely wrecked again today, just really stupid, stubborn trading, shorting GRINDING action just because a stock is up a lot (I'm falling back into the classic mistake lots of new traders make, thinking everything that's up a lot is a short), not waiting for parabolic's or backside and forcing size just to make as much as possible as quick as possible, even though I'm not comfortable with that much size the way that WBAI and PSTR were moving today.  I was down a lot unrealized a few times, but then I was only down $400 an hour before the close and actually had a decent trade, but then missed covering 800 shares and then readded stupidly and got squeezed into the last 30 minutes covering all on the bid 4.60's and 4.70's to avoid a buyin before it tanked back to my average in the last 5 minutes, turning a $400 gain into a $970 loss.

I just gave back half my profits from last month in two days, really devastating hit to the confidence, I feel like I have no clue what I'm doing anymore.  It's really hard to come back from draw downs like this, but that's what separates those that make it and those that don't, traders need to have perseverance and be resilient in times of struggles and keep pressing on.  New day tomorrow, gotta get myself figured out and build myself back again.

Gapped up today, I shorted 800 shares at 6.57, going to scale into it, I almost added another 800 at 6.60-6.64 but didn't, then ended up covering it at 6.47 for 10 cents.

WBAI
This opened up around 12 and quickly hit 11 after being halted premarket yesterday when there was bad news released and it was trading between 10.65-12 premarket from 12.29 close the day before. My first trade on it made sense, shorting into the parabolic from 11 to 14, should have covered some into the pullback candles and then reshorted, and ended up covering around 50 cents early, but it was still profit.  It held VWAP perfectly and starting bouncing back up, I shorted way too early at 13.78, I should have waited to see how it reacted at HOD since it was so close to that.  I added a bit more at 13.95 and 14.17, I had 1000 shares 13.93 avg and it was 14.30's.  I was trying to put an order in for 600 shares at 13.87 but accidently put 14.87 since I forgot to change the "14" that was still in, and I took the ask at 14.27 for a $200 dollar loss, it washed out to 13.70ish and I covered the other 400 at 13.79 (that accidental order cost me around $300 total).  Then it was just slowly grinding up again and I thought it might fail at 14, so I shorted 500 at 13.99, then it still looked weak on 14 over/under and I added at 14.13, it popped to 14.30's and I didn't cover any there and then it spiked past HOD to 14.80's in two candles.  Tried to cover into the dip and only got 200 filled then canceled it, I readded 150 shares at 14.93 (all I could add) and then got bought in stupidly at 14.89 on 260 shares, it pulled to 14.30's and I covered at 14.36 for a much smaller loss than it was at the top.  It grinded all the way back up again and then popped just over HOD on a parabolic and I shorted at 15.16 and it pulled back to 15.02 but then spiked another 50 cents, dipped again and didn't take it, it spiked further, dipped again and missed it (there were sellers at 15.61 a few times but they got taken out and then it started the next leg up to 16.50 (another $600 difference).  It pulled to 16.16 and I almost covered there, then bam 16.80 next candle (another $400 difference), it came back down some and I covered 16.32 and 16.09 with one 150 share readd.  Lastly I shorted 16.30, 400 shares and covered at 15.75 for finally a decent trade but with half the size as all my losses.

  • Be very careful of spiking and uptrending stocks AFTER BAD NEWS (or what some had perceived as bad news) especially with SSR on, tons of people are trapped short from 10.70-12 either from premarket before the halt or from slamming into the first candle that went from 11.99 to 11 or shorting on the bounce back up and add, add, adding (this acted similar to what it did on March 2nd but even more powerful today)
  • Never should slow grinding up action on uptrending stocks, ALWAYS WAIT FOR PARABOLICS or BACKSIDE
  • NEVER SHORT so close to HOD on uptrending stocks (whether it's just before or just after), especially after it has already come down and consolidated and grinded back up
  • DO NOT FIGHT THE TREND, get better at going long on dips on uptrending stocks or just AVOID SHORTING THEM

PSTR
So frustrating seeing this before the "crowd" did when it had traded less than 300k shares was just slowly uptrending in the low 3's, that ended up being the problem and I was way too early.  I shorted 1000 shares at 3.96, added 1000 shares at 4.09, it hung around 4 for 3 minutes and I was trying to cover some as the best bid 3.90's when it wasn't breaking down as much as I thought.  Then straight up to 4.87 in 2 candles (down like $1600 unrealized in 2 minutes).  I had no room to add unfortunately, which would have been the place to be shorting (WAITING FOR A PARABOLIC IS THE ONLY WAY TO SHORT THIN UPTRENDING STOCKS), had I waited for that move I could have scaled in 2000 shares 4.70-4.85 and covered 4.30-4.60 for an awesome quick trade.  It came down to 4.30 and I covered 1000 shares at 4.35 and missed my other cover in the 4.20's.  I readded 1400 on the pop 4.66ish, now I had 2400 shares 4.40 average and it dipped to 4.38-4.45 three times and I missed covering any for breakeven.  Then next leg up again to 4.80-4.90, I tried to add 300 shares at 4.92 and got 100 filled, luckily it tanked from 4.80 to 4.10 and I covered everything 4.18-4.26 for a small gain on the whole trade even after the earlier $300 dollar loss.  I wanted to scale in 2000 shares long around 3.96-4.04 but it never got to any of my orders unfortunately.  I then reshorted on the pop, 1000 at 4.27, 600 at 4.34 and added another 450 to a winner at 4.27 and it pulled to 4.08 again and I got 1250/2050 filled into that washout (800 still left).  I tried covering the last 800 on the bid 4.14-4.18 and wasn't getting filled when I wanted, I was trying to readd on the ask but only got 100 filled and 200 filled and then I canceled those thankfully, I shouldn't have been readding there and should have just been focusing on covering my last 800.  I kept missing the covers and then it popped back to 4.48 in 2 candles and I added 4.35, 4.40 and 4.45.  Now I had 3600 shares 4.36 average it was hanging around 3.36-3.45 and I was trying to cover some on the bid but didn't get filled and wasn't aggressive enough, I could have easily covered it all at 4.40 but I was too greedy and didn't want to take another loss because trying to "make back" still since I was still down $400 on the day.  It popped to 4.70 and then dipped to 4.48 and I was trying to cover 4.48-4.49 on the bid when it was hardly breaking down after it broke 4.50, I missed that and off she went back to 4.80's ($1000+ dollar difference than if I covered at 4.50).  Now it was getting past 3:30 EST so I was afraid of getting bought in on the ask when the spread is 5-10 cents, so I started covering on the bid 4.67-4.76 and had one 600 share readd at 4.83 that I was pretty sure of.  I still had 1500 shares going into the last 10 minutes and I covered it 4.67 and 4.61 right before it tanked to 4.45 and then hits 4.35 at the close, really frustrating but I still thought I might get bought in so that's what I had to do.  Went from -$400 on the day and +$100 unrealized to -$1500 by not covering the 800 shares from that good trade and then readding "trying to make it work" and not taking the loss into dips and being stubborn with it, getting squeezed into the last 15-20 minutes and then it washed out right back to where it came from before the market closed and will now probably gap down (just like VLTC did yesterday).  Once again, these types of stocks ($3-6 dollar momentum stocks), you either make a lot or lose a lot, I need to be trading these much better, so much missed opportunity when you are on the wrong side of these and being stubborn.
TypeEntryExitShares+/- $Amt$ PnL% Pnl
Short 4.31 4.26 3500 $0.04 $150.00 1.00%
Short 4.34 4.54 4850 -$0.20 -$969.30 -4.61%

  • Lessons:
  • ALWAYS WAIT FOR A PARABOLIC ON THIN, UPTRENDING STOCKS, DON'T JUST SHORT IT RANDOMLY JUST BECAUSE IT'S UP A LOT
  • Always cover ALL when a thin, uptrending stock continues to hold a key level and doesn't break down (it kept holding 4.40 and I didn't get any covered from 4.40 average, had my average been 4.50-4.60 I probably would have covered but I need to be covering regardless of what my average is, if it keeps holding it will likely squeeze higher again, my avg was so low because my had 1000 shares from 4.03, my 1400 shares from 4.66 had made around $400 but because I didn't take it, I ended up being down unrealized on my adds and missed the real opportunity shorting 4.80s to 4.10s with a completely new trade)
  • MAKE SURE TO COVER ALL if it starts to hold a key area or make higher lows, DO NOT TRY TO MAKE IT WORK WITH READDS just cover the rest and then can look for re-entries later (4.08ish held as a double bottom and I still had 800 shares and I missed covering that and then READDED "trying to make it work" and ended up turning my $400 dollar gain into at $970 dollar loss)
  • VWAP break to the downside and then hold over/under and then RECLAIM is very bullish, and the stock will likely continue higher, do not be fighting it short

Trades for April 6, 2015

Really, really bad day to start the week.  I had to leave earlier in the day to go somewhere with my family, so I was just planning on trading just until then and then leaving for the day, but ended up leaving later than planned and traded with a hotspot on the way, so didn't really miss much, but I wished I just took the day off.  This is almost 3x my biggest losing day since the start of March.  Red days less than $1000 are manageable, but $3000+ takes much more of an emotional effect and takes a big hit to your confidence and account size.  This is one of my biggest losing days ever.  These are the kinds of losses I would take in the past 6 months that would make me go nowhere overall, making money for a week or two and then taking a loss like this that gives it all back.  Really frustrating too because these are the perfect stocks to make a lot on $3-6 dollar momentum stocks with tons of range, but I guess it goes both ways, when you get it dead wrong and are super stubborn like me, these are the types of stocks where you can also lose a ton.

It was a $4000 dollar loss and it came back to about a $2000 dollar loss but then I ended up turning it into a $4000 dollar loss again from not covering all and readding more and being insanely stubborn and getting bought in dead top (at the time) on the last 2400 shares before it pulled back to 4 ten minutes later ($1000 difference). Traded it twice more from the laptop on a hotspot from my phone, and lost a bit more.  This loss is a bit of "wake-up call", but it was bound to happen eventually, there was quite a few times last month where I was in 6-10k shares and down a ton and they would come all the way back to even.  I need to just take a step back and trade smaller and not try to "make back", just slow and steady, start fresh again.  Huge loss after a good run, but I'm still glad that I've been wiring out otherwise this could have been a 6-10k loss easily.

I just realized I forgot to put VWAP on the chart (and I can't put it on now), the price was well above it most of the day, the key area where it was important was around that 3.30 level when I was in big size and really greedily wanted it to break.  I nailed the first short into the parabolic for a really quick scalp with 2000 shares 3.25, 3.28 to 3.09, 3.07, $370 bucks in 30 seconds.  Then started shorting too early on the next pop, first entry at 3.23, not wanting to miss it if it didn't get back to HOD 3.30ish.  Had around 3200 shares 3.31ish average and it hit 3.25 and I didn't cover any, then it popped up to 3.40-3.50 and I added another 5000 shares and had 8200 shares 3.38 average and it dipped to 3.30 which was just above VWAP, and it was holding there so I started covering some, but only 3000/8200.  I wanted that 3.30 break SO BADLY, I was SO GREEDY, I wanted to turn this fairly bad average but huge size into a homerun if 3.30 broke and it faded back to at least low 3's, and I make $1000-2000 in the first hour, also that greediness and wanting that 3.30 break so badly, and being so short biased on this junk stock is why I was readding my covers going for that homerun.  I should have made sure to COVER ALL, and definitely shouldn't have been readding any around my average when I already have 5200 shares.  It came back down a bit and HELD at 3.32 (a higher low) and then I added some more 3.39-3.50, when I should have been covering it all for breakevenish.  Now 9200 shares 3.40 average and it hit 3.67, dipped to 3.58 and HELD, and almost took the $2000ish dollar loss (with $500 realized profits already, woulda been down like $1500 on the day).  Missed it and it popped to 3.80, and held 3.63-3.79 for a while and I missed covering any again, I was looking for 3.50's, it popped to 3.92 and I was down around $4500 unrealized with $500 realized profits (-4k on the day).  It came back down a bit and I covered 6000 shares from 3.66-3.77 to put me at -$1300 on the day total with another $800-1000 unrealized on those 3200 shares if I just covered the rest (-$2kish on the day).  Readded another 2000 3.70's, missed covering any when it was still holding higher lows, it popped from 3.71 to 3.85 and then I got bought in on 2800 or so at 3.83.  It dipped to 3.70's again but missed it again and then it started going to 4.05ish, readded 500 then covered 1000.  I still had 2370 shares, and I would have covered ALL 3.90-4 when it was just hanging around, but since there was a 2:1 limit and my account isn't that big right now and already realized tons in losses, if I covered all, the max I would be able to reshort was around 1000 shares or less, so because of this I was insanely stubborn with the last 2370 shares, it finally broke 4.05ish and went to 4.45ish without pulling back much at all.  It starting looking "toppy" and there's no way I would have ever been covering there, I would have been adding if I could have, but I got bought in on 2280 shares at 4.44-4.45, only had 90 shares left and I covered that at 4.32 as it tanked to 4.25ish and then below 4 within 10 minutes ($1000 dollar difference without that stupid buyin).  I figured it was a "short all pops" after that pull to 4, thinking it would be similar to GBSN and CNDO which faded the rest of the day after they had their big pull after their big run.  I was trading from a hotspot and I did 1000 shares 4.20 to 4.06, then reshorted at 4.24, could have covered 4.15ish for 9 cents, but I was still expecting it to top out 4.20-4.30 and then fade back to low 4's at least.  It just would not pullback, it just slowly made it's way back to 4.50ish without much of a pullback at all, I was watching from my phone now and wanting to cover 4.20's but it kept holding 4.33ish and I was too slow to cover from my phone, it went to 4.50ish again and then one "flash crash" to 4.33 and I had and order in at 4.31 and just missed it, I should have covered at 4.41 when it bounced back up to 4.40 and wasn't breaking down, it soon squeezed to 4.70 into the last 20 minutes.  I didn't want to cover dead top and I waited for a pullback to 4.50's and covered at 4.54, really didn't expect it to hit 4.30 within a few minutes, but oh well, few hundred dollars difference doesn't mean much on a day like this.

  • Lessons:
  • Be very careful shorting on "daily chart breakouts", this is still up from around 1 in a few days with the huge gap up last week, but the highest it hit on day one was 3.10, today it was really strong and popped to 3.30 and then came back and held 3.10 over/under, then popped to 3.50 and then came back and held 3.30 (previous HOD/resistance now became support)
  • Do not add, add, add, so much and can never be in that big at once, 5000 shares should be my ABSOLUTE MAX for sure, 6000-10000 shares is just insane, every candle is like a $500-1000 difference
  • HAVE TO COVER ALL when it's still holding above a key area (3.30 previous resistance and VWAP), and NEVER be READDING around your avg when you are already in way too big size
  • Stay away from the grind on the short, this was slow and steady higher lows, fairly nice uptrend all day, there was no reason to still be short after it dipped to 3.65 and bounced and then kept holding higher lows (my readding and then insane stubbornness cost me about another $2000 than what it would have been just covering all there)
  • After a big dip on these big moving stocks well above VWAP (3.92-3.65 and 4.45 to 3.95), make sure to be covering into those dips and NOT READDING right away, if it bounces a bit and then comes back down and MAKES A HIGHER LOW, it will keep grinding higher and continue it's trend, that's WHEN YOU COVER EVERYTHING ELSE THAT YOU STILL HAVE LEFT EVEN BY TAKING THE ASK and then look for better entries again later
  • Try to be much more careful shorting these really strong, low float, momentum stocks that are ABOVE VWAP all day (all longs are in the money and love buying dips and chasing breakouts and all shorts are underwater and panic covering every time it spikes and SSR just adds even more to the squeeze)
  • Try to go long on dips on these slow and steady uptrending momentum stocks, I used to be able to go long on these but lately I'm the one being stubborn shorting and getting squeezed (I made a bunch on GENE long on it's run from 5 to 10 because I didn't have shares and I was just going long and following the trend, and I want to do more of that again, rather than fighting up-trending stocks short and trying to catch "falling knives" long, like I said before it's much easier to FOLLOW THE TREND)

Trades for April 2, 2015

Lots of little gains added up to a nice day to finish out a crappy week.  Mostly small size and quick scalps, one very forced, undisciplined trade on GBSN long with 6000 shares that I got lucky on. There was still a 2:1 limit on shorting GBSN so I couldn't short it with very much size.  Happy to finish with an awesome day after things weren't working so well earlier in the week.  Total for the week is now $840 before commissions, nothing huge, but green is green.

CAPN
Just quick scalps with small size, shorting into parabolic's, covering into washouts, small gains added up, missed the big fade, but it's hard to predict those huge washouts, it's very low volume and thin and can go either way with one big buyer or seller.  I just short into strength on the ask and cover on the bid into washouts, shorted 7.65 covered 7.46, shorted 7.93, "added to a winner" at 7.85, covered it all too soon around 7.76, shorted 8.03, covered 7.94.

GBSN
Missed the opening washout and bounce from 4.30ish to 4.70ish, and missed the short from 4.60's to low 4's.  Tried to scalp it long and got a 400 share partial fill on my sell, ended up adding lower and selling for a small profit.  Later, shorted at 4.24 and took the ask at 4.24 when a big buyer came in, I didn't want to miss covering again like I did yesterday.  Reshorted on pops, 1800 shares 4.33ish and covered like a piker around 4.27.  Reshorted 800 at 4.60, could have covered at 4.52, but was looking for a bit more than that and was willing to add higher, got a huge pop to 4.80 (bigger than I was expecting), I added 900 at 4.72 and covered it all at 4.65 for a cent (once again didn't want to miss taking breakeven from a bad entry like I did yesterday).  Scalped it long 4.53 to 4.59, was still wanting to short on pops and tried to short at 4.68 and got 65 shares filled, I hit the bid at 4.64 when it was still looking weak and I feel like I helped create the downside.  Covered too early at about 4.48, should have been a bit more patient now that it made a LOWER LOW and was about to go red on the day again, it faded another 30 cents.  Tried to scalp it long at 4.30, it was still acting weak so I tried selling at 4.34 and only got 200 shares filled, I should have just hit the bid at 4.30-4.32 instead of trying to make it work.  I added more lower and missed selling into a small bounce again, added more again, I was in way too big, forcing size on a bad setup, 6000 shares 4.225 average, the lowest it hit was 4.13, luckily, it bounced some and I sold everything 4.23-4.27, even hitting the bid on some just to make sure to SELL ALL instead of trying to make it work again.  The better spot to go long would have been on the dip again with risk on the previous low at around 4.16-4.20, and it slowly bounced to 4.30's.  Missed the reshort 4.30-4.39 on the r/g fail and VWAP fail, it faded to 4.06 (previous LOD area), "they" supported it there and it "skipped up on air" back to 4.30, I got a nice short at 4.30 and covered 4.18.

  • Lessons:
  • Be careful of add, add, adding to a loser on a downtrending red chart, they could just keep fading and then you are looking at a huge loss because of your size
  • Do not use so much size in bad setups (my trying to scalp the washout long and ending up long 6000 shares was very risky and very stupid and could have easily given back my whole day if it didn't bounce)
  • Don't let a partial fill mess up your whole trade, don't worry about the extra commissions of doing a new trade and just getting out (two of my long trades were messed up because I got a partial fill and didn't change the order to exit the rest and tried to make it work with adding more lower)
  • Try to be more patient with a winner once it's doing what you thought (I minimized my 4.33 to 4.26 short and my 4.64 to 4.48 short, both of them were doing exactly what I thought but I took the quick gains and missed another 10-30 cents on them)

NYMX
Completely accidental trade, I guess I still have some hot keys on my computer even though I haven't used them for like 5 months, accidentally bought 400 shares on the ask at 1.84, probably should have just sold 1.82-1.83 instead of trying to make it work.  I added 600 shares at 1.78 and then sold it all at 1.78 for a $24 dollar loss, didn't want to lose anymore than that on an accidental trade.

No idea why this was spiking out of nowhere, from 2.80 to 3.34 on lots of volume.  I didn't see anyone post anything about it in chat and I just saw it on my HOD list.  I was trying to figure out why it was spiking but was going to short it regardless if it got really extended.  I had an order waiting at 3.34 before it hit there (Accept Shrt 1000 CJJD 3.34 --ARCA--15:09:12--), it didn't fill my order right away and then I decided to cancel it when there was a 12k bidder at 3.29 and I still didn't know why it was spiking.  I was going to possibly hit that big bidder if it was getting taken out but it just did a quick pull to 3.20.  It bounced back up a bit and there was a bidder at 3.28 and I hit it with 1000 shares but only got 500 filled, covered it right away at 3.15 for a quick scalp.

Trades for April 1, 2015

Another small red day, haven't been doing very well so far this week.  Frustrating to see GENE come all the way back to 5.05 yesterday and see GBSN come all the way back to 4.40 today, both of them I covered way higher and I would have been fine if I just "held and hoped" forever, but oh well I guess, played it safe and could have re-shorted higher on both of them and then held longer.  I gotta stop thinking so much about the past, I think I'm still sorta trying to make back ALTR loss, and trying way too hard and forcing things and not being happy with $500 on the day (which I had today in the first hour from only two trades).

I didn't do much of what I said I was going to do on my monthly recap yesterday.  I forced a stupid trade on LL ($20+ dollar stock with some intraday news), luckily that ended up breakeven from all of it, and I didn't cover ALL on GBSN for breakeven (I tried and missed it but still could have taken the ask for a 1-5 cent loss many times), and fought with it forever leading to a $1200 total loss (which is also more than the $1000 limit that I was trying to keep my losses less than).

New day tomorrow, start fresh, don't try to make anything back, be happy with being positive on the day and don't force too much size.

This is a 150%+ gap up from about a dollar from some well known guy (Carl Icahn) buying a bunch of shares (like 4+ million shares).  The first minute candle was pretty crazy, hitting 2.61 and then spiking back up to 3.09.  I didn't have any orders already in, I put an order in for 1000 shares 3.09 and wasn't getting filled, then put another one in for 1000 at 3.08 and got 650 filled, I was surprised I even got that filled, the next second there was a seller at 2.90.  Would have been amazing to get both filled to be short 2k.  I figured it was going to washout when it was looking weak around 2.80-2.90, but didn't add any "to a winner", just waited for the washout and covered into it at 2.65.  Almost reshorted into the 2.95 push but I wanted 3 and I missed it when I tried to get filled.  Chased a terrible entry at 2.69 when a big bidder was getting hit, it popped up to 2.80s and I tried to add 500 shares but only got 100 filled.  Got the washout I wanted and I covered at 2.50 for 20 cents.  Was busy with GBSN after that and missed any reshorts.

Wanted to short into that 10.25 parabolic, had orders waiting too high like 10.28 and 10.30's and never got filled, and didn't chase it down.  Went long at 9.66 and sold at 9.70 when it wasn't bouncing much.

Wanted to short this but my chart was lagging and all I saw was the level 2 at 34ish, but the chart was behind and I couldn't see the last 5 minutes of candles, it washed out huge from 34 to 32.30.  I went long for a scalp, 300 shares at 32.63 and it did a quick spike to 33.20 but I didn't have any orders in at the time and got greedy because I had missed that.  Added another 300 lower, now had 600 shares 32.48 avg, had 20-30 cents profit for a second on 600 shares but missed that, it did a quick washout to 31.93 and then bounced to 32.50 and I sold HALF at 32.47.  It washed out lower to 31.66 and I added another 500 into that and I sold all my 800 shares for basically break even from 32.08 average.

  • Lessons:
  • Be careful/avoid trading intraday news related stocks, use much less size or avoid altogether
  • Make sure to not be too greedy on exits on quick scalps like this
  • Make sure to put the order to SELL ALL instead of trying to scale out for an extra 10-20 cents and missing it

GBSN
Missed the short in the first few minutes at 4.10ish, woulda have been a nice gain down to 3.60's.  It started to grind and make higher lows and regained VWAP and went red to green on the day, all signs of strength and to be more long biased than short biased.  I shorted at 4.09, covered at 4.06 when it wasn't breaking down.  Then shorted into the parabolic 1k at 4.23 and 1k at 4.29 and it didn't pullback much at all on the second candle was just hanging around 4.25, then it went to 4.49 and I had no more room to add since it was under 2:1 limit today.  I knew 4.20 was the previous high from yesterday, so I should have been more careful shorting it around there.  It came back to 4.27ish about 5 times (my avg was 4.26), I missed covering for breakeven the first two times, eventually got 600 filled at 4.27 and then was trying to cover the rest at 4.26 and I got another 600 filled and I sorta "held it up" and then Tim Sykes (he was short 5k at 4.38, really frustrating when he makes a trade on something that you are already in and makes it "super crowded") covered at 4.29 and made it pop to 4.38.  I readded 800 shares at 4.36 (new average 4.31) and almost covered for breakeven.  It tested 4.30 and held then a big buyer came in at 4.31 and I tried to cover everything on the bid at 4.32 instead of taking the ask at 4.34, I didn't get filled and then it soon was 4.50 again, it seemed like it might be "stuffing" in this area at HOD, so I added another 400 at 5.53. It pulled to 4.43 then popped to 4.70 in 2 candles, which is super frustrating when you are short, just like GENE yesterday a few minutes and it changes the PnL dramatically ($500 dollar difference). Didn't get any covered into dips, I was going to cover 4.50-4.56 into a washout but it never got there, it looked like it might wash out again at 4.65ish and then another huge spike up to 4.90 (another $500 dollar differnce).  I waited for a dip to cover into and got 1000 shares filled at 4.76 (covered 1k in one order and then was trying to cover the other 1k and missed it), readded 700 at 4.87, missed covering everything at 4.80 and straight up to 5.10 (another $500+ difference), it dipped to 4.93-4.95 and I was going to cover 4.80's, then it popped again to 5.20+ in one candle (another $500+ difference).  Covered 500 at 5.20, readded 200 at 5.34 and then covered everything at 5.05ish.  Scalped it long 5.01 to 5.06, missed the reshort 5.20, went long 5.05 and it was hitting 5.15 for two candles and I was trying to sell for a tiny profit, ended up getting 100 shares filled at 5.11, added a bunch more trying to "make back" and frustrated for missing my fills and getting a partial fill.  Had 4000 shares 5.02 average, it hit 4.92 then bounced to 5.04, I got 2500 sold for breakevenish (missed some fills), added more lower in bad spots, ended up with 4000 shares again 4.94 avg and it hit 4.78, luckily, it bounced to 5 and I sold it all into that for breakevenish.  I didn't "flip short" after my sells, it faded nicely to 4.40s and I scalped it long again a few times and made back a little bit.

  • Lessons:
  • Stocks that faded in the morning and did a "weak open r/g" are much more likely to continue higher because they've already consolidated and flushed out the "weak hands" and trapped some shorts and there are obviously still buyers supporting it higher
  • Be careful shorting close to a "daily chart breakout", try to wait and see if it acts as resistance or breaks past it first
  • Stay away from the slow grind/holding of support without breaking down, MAKE SURE TO COVER ALL, can TAKE THE ASK
  • Whenever you are in a stubborn trade with too much size, have to be SIZING DOWN OR COVERING ALL into dips and then just replacing the shares again higher, even if you think it is going down by the end of the day, if it looks like it's going higher at that moment it's better to cover and then RESHORT AGAIN HIGHER
  • Going along with that, if you are in a stubborn trade with too much size and you were just down on it and it comes back to breakeven, have to be COVERING ALL and then looking for better entries later on, don't get too greedy trying to turn it into a profit
  • On these crazy, low float "spikers" on the FRONTSIDE, only PARABOLIC shorts and cover ALL into dips, better to be going long off dips but if you are shorting that's what to do
  • Once it makes a significant pullback after a big run (5.40 to 5), can now reshort all pops/bounces for continued lower highs and fading
  • Follow the trend, it's much easier than fighting it (I was fighting it short on the way up and then fighting it long on the way down)
  • Do not "revenge trade" with too much size trying to make back a loss
